It's Winter in New  Hampshire

I thought you'd enjoy a few photos of the winter weather in the great Northeast Kingdom.

This first one was shot on January 9, 2025 just before Lake Winnisquam froze over. I captured it late in the day. You're looking north northeast in the photo. If you could rise straight up several hundred feet in the air above my deck, you'd see Mt. Washington just over the top of the hill in the distance.

The light wind is massaging the icy water preventing it from transforming to ice. The water temperature was below 32 F. It will only freeze if the wind dies down and the water stops bobbing up and down.

This second photo was taken at sunrise on January 20, 2025. Overnight we received 8 inches of fluffy powder. The wind sculpted the small moguls on the frozen surface of Lake Winnisquam. I was looking east southeast right at Belknap and Gunstock mountains.

This last photo is very typical snow cover. There's about 12 inches of snow cover on the ground to the left of my garage. The snowfall has been light this season. You would expect by now to see about 24 inches of snow cover.

It's important to realize this photo has NOT been color corrected. The sky is that blue here in New Hampshire. Storms move out fast because of our higher latitude. We get brilliant blue sky hours after a storm has dusted us with snow.

My Son's Basement Update

Last May I started a monumental project at my son's house. He lives in Nashua, NH. He bought a new three-bedroom home there two years ago. It had a marvelous unfinished pristine basement.

The giant project of transforming this into a finished space is progressing. On Mother's Day weekend, I started the job by gluing the silver foam insulation to the exterior concrete walls.

My son took Kathy to a local greenhouse where they bought all the orchids so no one else could have any. I'm just joshing you about that. That said, they did come back with many of the wonderful plants.

This is what my son's basement looked like the following Saturday morning when we started to build the first walls:

My son is a software engineer. He codes and attends meetings M-F. He and I can only work on the project on Saturdays. Here is the plan that was submitted to the city of Nashua to obtain the building permit:

When you read this, all of the drywall work will be complete. 

Hallelujah!

I LOATHE doing drywall work. In fact, the bedroom and storage room will be painted as you read this.
