Are you looking for the dream employee?
I'm talking about one that can do all you require and more.
Each time I talk with business owners, I inquire about
their biggest challenges.
This is a typical answer:
"I have SO MUCH trouble finding GREAT help. The young people today don't understand the concept of work. They have no loyalty. They're always checking their phones for who-knows-what. They're REACTIVE, not proactive..."
The list of complaints goes
on and on.
Don't Choose Poorly
Do you recall that scene deep in the cave where Indiana Jones meets up with the old knight? His job is to guard the Holy Grail.
There are many different chalices on the stone shelfs. You get but one chance to pick the real
grail.
If you choose poorly, which the Nazi officer did, life is taken from you.
Choose the wrong employee and she/he can suck the life and ethos from a company like a tick gorges itself on blood.
My son-in-law works in the tech industry. He told me a year ago something I never thought
of.
He said, "Hiring a new employee is a huge risk. If you employ the wrong person, she/he becomes a massive liability. It's why our interview process is so extensive with so many team members. We want to put the applicant through the wringer to squeeze out any and all flaws."
What would you say if I told you the DREAM employee
exists.
This employee, if put up on an auction block in front of a dozen HR managers, would garner a record sum. The bidding frenzy would be like Piranha fish feasting on a fawn that fell into a tributary of the Amazon River.
Would you hire the dream employee if she/he was available?
Why of course you would. In a
heartbeat.
What is the Dream Employee?
Let's talk about someone who's primary skills are scheduling and organizing.
I would have KILLED to have an employee like this 30-40 years ago. That's what building homes and remodeling is all about - scheduling and
organizing.
These two skill sets apply to MANY businesses. You'd probably be looking for a one-of-a-kind Project Manager.
Stretch your imagination for a moment.
Think of the ultimate personal assistant. Some might call this person an executive secretary.
Years ago I built a deluxe detached garage for one. Sandy Heiman was Carl Lindner Jr.'s personal assistant. Carl was a very successful businessman who lived in Indian Hill, the most exclusive suburb of Greater Cincinnati.
How much would you desire a personal assistant that has mystic powers enabling her to anticipate your every need?
She instinctively
knows what needs to be done.
How about a person with a photographic and audio memory? One who hears direction but once, and you never need to say anything again.
Pinch yourself - this person is out there.
"Are Pampers Coming Off the Assembly
Line?"
Do you think the CEO of Procter & Gamble gets on the phone each day calling the plant manager where Pampers are made?
Why of course he DOESN'T make these calls!!
Why?
He KNOWS the Pampers are being made and boxed for goodness
sake.
He KNOWS he hired the RIGHT PLANT MANAGER.
The CEO doesn't need to WASTE a moment wondering if this or that is getting done.
You want this same peace of mind.
You want the employee that takes anxiety and worry off
your plate.
A Partial List of Qualities
What are the other qualities that you'd love to have in one person?
How about tech savvy? It's a must in today's world.
Would you be attracted to a person with no social media presence? But
yet this person knows how to LEVERAGE social media to make a company money? Can you see the advantages of that?
What about a person that can get four hours of work done in two or three hours?
Oh, and with no mistakes. Yep, this person exists.
Do you value loyalty? Who doesn't? Yes, there are a few young people that
understand this concept.
I think you get the point.
