Merry Christmas

I bring you glad tidings and joy! It's that magical time of year. Winter has its grip on New Hampshire. Here's a photo I shot three days ago. This is Newfound Lake and you're looking north. Newfound Lake has the cleanest water of any lake in the state.

Merry Christmas to you. If you celebrate some other holiday, I wish for you to have a warm and wonderful celebration.

God has been very good to me, lovely Kathy, and my entire family this past year. I hope you have also experienced the same good fortune, love, and blessings.

The Carter clan has grown by one. Everyone is healthy. I'm losing weight by minimizing grains and diabetes sand (sugar). Working on my son's basement project has also helped me take in my belt by two holes! WOOT!

I think one of the best prizes I've received this year is your trust and continued support. I get so much pleasure when I'm able to help save you time and money.

Here's a quick example.

A few days ago I did a 45-minute consult call with Israel. I've been working with him for about six months trying to solve a vexing heating and air-conditioning issue in a 120-year-old house in Chicago.

The problem started with an ignorant, and or lazy, HVAC contractor many moons ago. He didn't install the supply and return ductwork as you should.

The primary issue is heating in his home. Some rooms are frigid while others are like Phoenix, AZ in July.

I said, "Israel, I've got great news for you. I'm about to save you $40,000.00."

He replied, "Keep talking!"

I then shared my recent experience with the sleek Runtal electric wall panel heaters I had just installed in my son's basement.

"Isael, these heaters are made in the USA, they're indestructible, and they're easy to install. The heaters can be installed in less than an hour once you have the electric power cable at the heater location."

A great electrician can figure out how to get the cable from the circuit breaker panel to the wall thermostat and then the heater.

Within two hours, I connected Israel with the Runtal national sales manager.

I KNOW Israel's Christmas is going to be brighter and his house is going to be SO TOASTY warm.

How do I know this? My son's heaters have been working for the past three weeks as we've been keeping the basement warm to finish the drywall.

Coast Flashlight Story

What are your favorite things? You may have a collection of shoes. How about light-weight jackets? Maybe you like hats.

Perhaps you have a few more guns than you need. No, you can't have too many pistols and long guns. Lately I've been having a blast plinking things with my Ruger 10/22 takedown rifle. It was made just 40 miles from my house!

I happen to love flashlights, fountain pens, pencils of all types, and pocket knives. I've got quite a collection of all of these things. This is not to disparage my collection of model trains and my railroad-under-glass coffee table.

My two favorite brands of flashlights are Coast and Klein Tools.

Coast flashlights come with a lifetime warranty. I started to have issues with my Coast HP7. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, but it wouldn't turn on.

I filled out the warranty fulfillment request on their website. Two weeks later a new HP7 was delivered to my house. I just had to pay $5 for shipping.

Infrared Thermal Image

I wrote a column a few days ago about thermal imaging sensors that connect to you smartphone.

Here's an image of a GFCI outlet in my kitchen. My one-cup coffee maker was plugged into it, but the appliance was NOT ON.

At first I was alarmed! Was there a loose wire attached to the outlet?

I touched the outlet and it was barely warm.
