It's only got 140,000 miles on it. That's barely broken in for a Volvo. It's been garaged its entire life. The car has never been in an accident other than trading paint with a shelf support angle iron in my garage. That created the dent in the hood.
Â
My car has the rare 4.4 litre V8 engine. It's a rocket. Most XC-90s of this
vintage had the smaller engine with a turbo.
Â
It seats 7 people. The car runs great. It failed the annual NH safety inspection this past Thursday. It's got a broken coil spring that I couldn't feel and some front and rear suspension parts are below the state safety specifications. There are a few other things wrong with it.
Â
New Hampshire has a very strict annual safety inspection
requirement. Being a staunch Constitutional Conservative, this is one law I agree with. The last thing you want are unsafe 4,000-pound objects coming at you at 40 mph just five feet away on the other side of the double-yellow painted line.
Â
The bottom line is it would cost me far more to repair the car than it's currently worth according to all the numbers I see online. But it may cost you just a few hundred dollars in parts to make
it safe again. I'm good at fixing houses, but not so good at fixing cars and trucks.
Â
BUT, if you're a serious Volvo, or other, shade-tree mechanic, this might be a gemstone in disguise. The parts value of this car blows my mind.
Â
Here's an example. The aluminum alloy wheels NEW cost you $300 each. The V8 engine, should you want to
replace yours, is $2,000 or more. I didn't even bother to price out the transmission but you know it's thousands of dollars.
Â
Who  knows what the wood steering wheel is worth. I don't even think you can find that part. Kathy is none too happy about getting a car that doesn't have this same steering wheel.
Contact me if you're interested. I'm happy to send you the full safety inspection report
so you can see what the mechanics discovered.
Â
It still has a valid NH safety sticker good until July 31, 2024. You can drive it out my driveway with a temporary license plate. If you live thousands of miles away, a car-transport service can deliver it to you.
Â
I plan to list it on Craigslist the first week of July for $5,000.00 or BEST OFFER. If you want this car,
you better react. I guarantee you it won't last on Craigslist but for a few days. Someone will do the math and buy the car just for the value of the parts.
