Dear FIRST
NAME,
Â
Are you a seasoned firefighter? Currently employed or recently retired?
Â
The number of news pieces I'm seeing about residential lithium-ion battery fires is staggering. I have a Google Alert set up for it.
Â
Here's a story about two
NYC kids that just perished because of a battery fire.
Â
I'd like to focus on the do's and don'ts and some are in this PDF put together by the NYFD.
Â
But I want to really do a deep dive about STORING batteries.
Â
Here's my NON-professional
thought about it. I'd like your firefighting input please.
Â
I told my son that he might want to buy an inexpensive rolling metal tool box like you see here.
Â
You can put all the batteries in the bottom cabinet when storing them.Â
Â
You place the cabinet next to the garage door and attach a 30-foot length of
chain to the handle. You keep the wheels unlocked.
Â
Coil the chain on the floor by the door.
Â
If there's a fire, the firefighters use a overhaul pike pole with a hook on it or ???? to hook the chain and then drag the toolbox out onto the drive or out to the street to deal with the inferno.
Â
I'm OPEN to your suggestions even if you're not a firefighter.
Â
But I need to HEAR from
firefighters to get a feel of what is the BEST way to store the batteries and HOW do you get them out of the building where they can combust out in the open?
Â
Thanks.
