Issue #1203 (I think...)

I had another absolutely amazing week. I got lots done, but not everything got crossed off my to-do list.  I hope you had a great past week too.

It's peak color here now in central New Hampshire. Here are a few videos and a photo to prove it. I shot them all yesterday. You'll see one of the train pulling into the Ashland station. When the passengers got off to see the station, I held court with four stunning 22-year-old goddesses who had me spell their names in Morse code. They were older versions of Kaylee as they asked lots of questions.

My guess is you'll discover this is an interesting issue. Here's why.

I had breakfast with Peaches two days ago. What fun!

Peaches & Eggs Over Easy

Peaches is a subscriber just like you. A few months ago he emailed me mentioning that he would be up peeping leaves the past few days. He picked the best weekend. Understand I didn't know back then if Peaches was a man or woman.

I had told him that if he did show up and wanted to have breakfast, I'd love to meet up. I heard from him on Thursday night and I could only do Friday morning. We went to a quintessential New Hampshire Diner, Gina's, in Bristol, NH.

You know I had to ask about his name and it turns out his father was named Anthony but back in the 1930s his dad was a champion marble shooter. Remember in Patton's speech in the 1970s movie where he talks about that? I thought it was made up for the movie!

Nope, marbles and mumbly peg were big back then. The slang back then for the word cool was the word peachy or peaches. That's where the phrase peachy-keen came from. 

Everyone started calling Anthony Peaches and it stuck. So when he had a son, it was decided to name him Peaches!

Peaches stays young umpiring baseball of all ages including an over-70 league in New Jersey.

A Great Compressor - Get This One

If you don't own a small portable air compressor, you should. Once you get one you'll say, "How did I survive WITHOUT one all these years?"

EV Florida Fires

I'm not the only one beating the drum about EV issues.

Karen sent me a link to a story about electric vehicles spontaneously combusting after the batteries were shorted out by Hurricane Ian water. Check out in the column how much water the firefighters used and the car was STILL SMOKING.

Then Kathy sent me one about a saga of a man driving around for an hour to try to find a charging station.

Remember, EVs are not zero-emission. Well, they are if you have your own set of solar panels, windmill, or micro-hydro power plant. If you're getting your electricity from the grid, you're just trading coal or natural gas for gasoline.

EVs are not ready for prime time. Don't succumb to the propaganda about them.

BTW, have you thought about trade-in value? What are EVs going to be worth if when you trade one in and discover the dealer says it needs a $35,000 battery replacement?

Lastly, how do you feel about a new car that forces you to take a breathalizer test before turning the key? How about a car that won't let you speed? How about a car that might not start if the government thinks you do too many bad things?

You better read this story now and if you're upset, then reach out to your elected officials - I'm talking about the ones that VOTE on bills before reading them.
