For example, just a week or so ago I told a very very dear friend of mine to STOP working so hard.

I mentioned to him that it felt like yesterday that I celebrated my 55th birthday. To be precise, it was 781 weeks ago that happened to me.

Summer WX is in full swing here in central New Hampshire. I've had the good fortune to live here the past fourteen years. This past week it's been hot and I've been swimming in Lake Winnisquam.

The water temperature is perfect. Here's a typical sunrise as seen from my patio by the lake. I'm so lucky to witness these but trust me I've put in the sweat and tears to make it possible. You can do the same. Just be a triple D doer: discipline, diligence, and determination.

As you can see, there was no wind creating waves the morning I shot this photo. The water was like glass. Just after taking this photo, I paddled my kayak up about two miles to the loon preserve.

For all the years of my early life growing up in Cincinnati, OH I had no idea Mother Nature could offer up such eye candy. You couldn't see a sunrise or sunset anything close to what you see in the above photo.

That said, I did witness great winter sunsets while I delivered the last few papers on my paper route. I'd stop on clear winter days and marvel as the sun would sink behind the Western Hills horizon across the pollution-filled Mill Creek Valley just below me. I was always amazed at how fast the sun would move late in the day, but at high noon it seemed like it just hung motionless in the sky.

As I child, my family was so poor we only took two vacations: one to Florida when I was probably 7 years old and another to an Indiana State Park when I was perhaps 9 years old. Using some saved-up allowance money, I bought a very cool travel chess set at that state park. I still have it and have instructions that it's to become a Carter heirloom.

If you're a chess expert, I have the board rotated 90 degrees the wrong way. It's supposed to be a white square under the black rook in the lower right corner. No wonder I lost so many games of chess!!! But not ping pong. I rule the ping pong table.

After I traveled out West for the first time the summer of 1971, I knew it was time to expand my knowledge and data base about all sorts of things. For 17 years I had formed all my opinions about things just taking in what I saw in Cincinnati. What a sad mistake that was!

If you've not done that, expand your database about lots of things, you might want to try it.

The Red Beast

You may be one that's really enjoyed my DIY truck-repair stories the past few weeks. Several have asked for more information and a photo of my truck.

I've always tried to take care of my things. It's really paying off since we're now in the early stages of a recession that I feel is going to last quite some time.

Not only are we now dealing with a recession, but Inflation is also raging because our OverLords are devaluing your savings account by printing trillions of fiat currency dollars and dumping them into the monetary system.

The common rule of thumb for defining a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. But there's some obscure group called the National Bureau of Economic Research (NEBR) that a few pay homage to. The issue is the NEBR can twiddle their thumbs or ??? and delay calling the recession for up to a year. By that time all of us small folk have been feeling the pain for many months.

And for the past two years and four months several US government agencies have a less than stellar track record of telling us the truth so it might not be a good idea to worship at the NBER altar.

When you go grocery shopping or fill your car with gasoline, look at how inflation is eating into your savings and how the dollars in your accounts become worth less each day. You know the old saying, right?

Decisions have consequences.

Start making better decisions and your fortunes will change for the better.

But I digress.

Here's a photo of my 2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty 4x4. It's got 148,000 miles on it. It looks brand new but believe it or not it's going to be 14 years old in a few months.

The buggies in the parking slot are courtesy of non-New Hampshire residents who overrun my town each summer. Many are rude, they have few manners, they're lazy, and they're selfish. Don't believe me? Ask many of the local purveyors who sell goods and services to them.

Once these interlopers go back south in the fall, you rarely see an abandoned buggy in the parking lot. Almost all of us NH residents take the extra 30 seconds and return the buggies to the numerous corrals within the parking lot.

Do you leave your buggy abandoned in parking lots?

Why do you do this? I'd love to know.

Ghost Writers

Did you know that some things you read online are produced by invisible authors? My guess is maybe you did. You might be stunned about how much ghost-written home improvement content exists out on the InterWeb.

Have you ever stopped and wondered about the writer's qualifications? How much hands-on experience does the ghost writer have about the topic?

The issue is since the author is hidden, you simply don't know. And if there's a way to message the website, I doubt you'll get a straight answer.

So what should you do? My advice is to take any ghost-written content with a big bag of salt. Would you trust an unnamed source in a news story? Do these invisible sources even exist? Of course not!

Then be darned careful about placing your trust, your MONEY, and your time in ghost writers.

Do you know how reliable I-need-it-NOW-not-when-the-sun-comes-up-or-when-the-wind-blows electricity is generated?

Tell the truth.

Do you know how many hours of sunlight we have each day in the winter in the USA?

Have you ever driven by a power plant?

How many times in the past two years have I told you to STOP BEING PLAYED?

Stop it now.
